Children’s Charity Plant Sale

Second Harvest Food Bank will be one of eight Madison-area non-profit organizations to benefit from this year’s annual Children’s Charity Plant Sale. The sale is sponsored by Becker Law Office, S.C., and is scheduled for Friday, May 7, from 2 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Here are the locations:

A nice selection of hostas is available at the sale

I just got home from a small, local plant sale sponsored by two wonderful Verona, Wisconsin, gardeners. On the corner of Paoli St. (Highway 69) and Bruce St. just south of downtown Verona, the sale offers huge plants, excellent prices, and nice hosts, who are willing to talk if you have some questions or would like some information. I spent a few minutes with Sharon, in whose garden the sale is sited, while I was there this afternoon. It’s difficult to see from the few photos I snapped of the sale, but her garden is huge, beautiful and always in bloom. Sharon’s advice to gardeners wanting to stretch their season of bloom: when planning your garden, start with winter and work your way backward through the seasons.
